Our history

Royal Clarence Lodge No.68 was founded in 1807, re-numbered in 1863.

In the 17th Century Bristol was an important trading port, and many seafarers formed Lodges in and around the docks, and Royal Clarence was formed from one of these; known as the Mariners Lodge, an “Ancient Lodge”.

Early meetings were mainly held in taverns in and around those docks, until the move to Park Street in 1869.

Royal Clarence Lodge No.68 is one of 38 Craft Lodges now meeting in the Province of Bristol, under the umbrella of the United Grand Lodge of England.

Whilst the Province of Bristol is, geographically, a relatively small province, it cherishes the unique characteristic of the “Bristol Workings” which sets it aside from other Provinces.
